How to play

Embercraft is a free multiplayer medieval strategy game, playable right in your browser, on PC and mobile. Here are the essentials to get your kingdom going.

The goal of the game

You start with a modest village that you will turn into a mighty kingdom. Gather resources, construct buildings, raise an army, explore the map, ally with other lords and prevail over your rivals. There is no forced ending: you progress at your own pace. In time, you'll found outposts, join a guild and climb the server rankings — everything unfolds in a persistent world where your progress is never reset.

Resources

Three resources fuel your economy: wood (sawmill), stone (quarry) and wheat (farm). They are produced automatically, even while offline, up to your warehouse capacity. Gold is an optional premium currency. Upgrade your production buildings to speed up your growth. Your production buildings' levels set the pace: upgrade them early, as the investment pays for itself within hours — and the warehouse caps how much you can stockpile.

Building your village

Each building has a role: production (sawmill, quarry, farm), storage (warehouse), military (barracks, workshop), trade (market) and diplomacy (embassy). Constructions run in a queue; their cost and duration rise with each level. Plan your priorities according to your strategy. Your build order is your first strategic decision: economy first, defenses next, army once your reserves can keep up.

Army & combat

Recruit troops at the barracks (swordsmen, cavalry, archers, mages, titans…) and build defenses (turrets, ballistae, trebuchets) to protect your village. Combat resolves in waves: the attacker loots resources if they win, the defender keeps their spoils and rebuilds part of their losses. Spy on your targets before attacking. Before every assault, spy on your target to learn its garrison, and use the built-in simulator to predict the outcome of the battle without risking your troops.

The map & colonization

The world is organized into Kingdoms, Counties and Fiefs (coordinates in the [K:C:F] format). You can explore the map, attack or support other players, launch expeditions and colonize new fiefs to expand your territory. Every journey takes time: plan your moves ahead. PvE incursion camps offer guaranteed loot without touching other players — the best way to grow your army in the early game.

Guilds & cooperation

Join or found a guild to cooperate: shared resource bank, messaging and a collective ranking. There is strength in unity — a good guild radically changes the experience. The guild bank lets members share resources, and the War Room lets you launch coordinated group attacks — the server's greatest victories are won there.
